The common solution to dealing with corroded nuts, bolts, screws, and other fasteners is to dump a bunch of popular name-brand solvent on the problem, wait for a few minutes, then try to take it apart. This approach causes the following problems:

  • It’s a waste of time. Why spend several minutes or even longer taking something apart when it can be done in seconds, with far less effort and frustration?
  • It sounds cheap, but it’s actually expensive when you consider how much product you’ll go through over the course of a month or a year.
  • It’s environmentally unsound. Popular rust solvents are not friendly to people or to nature. Nor are anti-seize pastes with metal particles in them. Yes, Interflon really does care about this issue!
  • It’s not a long-term solution, but a quick fix. If you have to take the same thing apart in a month, the solvent will have washed away, and you’ll have to re-apply it before you can get it unstuck again.

Use Case #1: Live Fish Pumps

Use Case #2: Underwater Sensors

A leading global power systems manufacturer had a large contract making towed or autonomous underwater vehicles. These were used in measuring data thousands of feet deep in the ocean, then brought up to the surface so they could beam their data to a satellite. The challenge this company faced was the galvanic corrosion that took place between the different kinds of metals used in manufacturing these devices. These devices were extremely expensive to repair. Once they discovered HT1200, they no longer experienced galvanic corrosion on their devices, and disassembly was made vastly easier. This ended up saving many thousands of dollars in damaged equipment for the manufacturers.

Use Case #3: Motorboat propeller shafts

Motorboat propellers and shafts are often made of different alloys, which means the potential for galvanic corrosion exists. To combat this, many manufacturers include a collar around the shaft that is made of zinc, one of the weakest of metals. This is called a “sacrificial anode”. The zinc will be the one to dissolve, leaving the shaft intact. However, if the anode is not present, or if it comes off without the boat owner noticing, this can cause severe problems. A boat at sea will be in big trouble if the prop shaft snaps due to corrosion.

The solution is to use HT1200 wherever different alloys come into contact with each other. As long as that protective ceramic layer exists between them, no galvanic corrosion can take place.
